Complexes of Ferrous Iron With Tannic Acid
نویسنده
چکیده
Solutions of tannic (digallic) acid at concentrations of 5 or 50 parts per million reduce dissolved ferric iron to the ferrous state when the pH is less than 4. In solutions with a pH of 4 or more, a black material containing ferric iron and tannic acid is precipitated. In a solution containing 500 parts per million of tannic acid, a ferrous complex forms at a pH of more than 5. This complex is oxidized at a slow rate, and some ferrous iron remains in solution after a month of storage in contact with air. Uncomplexed ferrous iron is oxidized and precipitated from solution in a few hours or less at pH levels of more than 5. The approximate value of the first dissociation constant for tannic acid is between 1X 10~5 and 1X 1G~6 . The stability constant for the ferrous complex is comparable in magnitude to that of the pink bipyridine complex used in the determination of iron.

Effect of sodium iron ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid on the absorption of various trace elements in anemic rats
Iron deficiency in developing countries is attributed to the bioavailability of iron derived from staple food such as grains, vegetables and legumes. Sodium iron ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (NaFeEDTA), a strong metal chelator, is one of the food additives for iron fortification and it has been used for improvement of iron deficiency in the world. However, the effect of NaFeEDTA on the absor...
متن کاملThe Effect of Calcium, Ascorbic Acid and Tannic Acid on Iron Availability from Arthrospira Platensis by Caco-2 Cell Model
There are several dietary factors that are known to affect the bioavailability of iron such as protein, calcium, ascorbic acid, polyphenol and phytate. The aim of this study was to determine iron bioavailability from spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) in the presence of calcium, ascorbic acid (AA) and tannic acid (TA). The experiments were conducted using in vitro digestion/Caco-2 cell culture s...
متن کاملSugars Increase Non-Heme Iron Bioavailability in Human Epithelial Intestinal and Liver Cells
Previous studies have suggested that sugars enhance iron bioavailability, possibly through either chelation or altering the oxidation state of the metal, however, results have been inconclusive. Sugar intake in the last 20 years has increased dramatically, and iron status disorders are significant public health problems worldwide; therefore understanding the nutritional implications of iron-sug...

Iron deficiency is a major public health concern and nutritional approaches are required to reduce its prevalence. The aim of this study was to examine the iron bioavailability of a novel home fortificant, the "Lucky Iron Fish™" (LIF) (www.luckyironfish.com/shop, Guelph, Canada) and the impact of dietary factors and a food matrix on iron uptake from LIF in Caco-2 cells. LIF released a substanti...

The oxidation of ferrous iron (Fe2+) in solution using Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans has industrial applications exclusively in the regeneration of ferric iron (Fe3+) as an oxidizing agent for the removal of hydrogen sulfide from waste gases, desulfurization of coal, leaching of non-ferrous metallic sulfides and treatment of acid mine drainage. The aim of this investigation was to increase the...
